Library

General Information

Discovery College library endeavours to support the students and staff in their pursuit of quality information and leisure reading material. As our school grows, so does our collection and access to information.

The library is staffed by Mrs McKenzie, a teacher librarian, and Miss Annie Yeung, the library assistant.

Our opening hours are from 8.00am - 4.00pm with students able to borrow and access the library before school, recess, lunch and after school, as well with their classes in class time.

There are a number of different resources arranged in the library to cater for the different age groups we have in the school. More details of the arrangement can be found under our policies page.

Parents are welcome to register to borrow from the library, and will be issued with their own library card after completing a form. Parents are asked to come before 8.30am and after 3.00pm to reduce disruption to the students needs.

Donations of books and other resources are welcome, please understand that we are selective in what we accept for the collection to maintain a high standard of resources. If you wish to donate, we will take everything, but some donations may be donated to a third party if we can't use them. Please see our policy page for the selection criteria.

Battle of the books

About Battle of the books

The BoB progamme was started in Hong Kong in 2001 by Bryant McIntyre, a Teacher Librarian from the USA. The BoB model is based on the original concept formed in Noth Carolina, USA. It is essentially a literature quiz based on a set number of books.

There are two categories of the reading programe - Primary School which involves years 5 & 6 and Middle school, which involves years 7&8. In each category the students are asked to read from a list of 20 books.

In May, a number of schools in HK battle it out according to regions and a day of rounds. The winners of the rounds move into the "BoB Grand final" where two schools in each category battle it out.

This year, Discovery College would like to field two teams from each category, and BoB will be offered as an CCA in term two and three. Mrs McKenzie and Mr Hudson will co-ordinate the teams.
