MYP Yr 2 | Music| Course Overview

In this course students will develop their listening, composition and performance skills while studying protest music. The students will be guided through learning activities that will guide them to being able to understand and answer the unit question below. The students will focus on the importance and place of protest music in our communities and broader society, and how protest music can be used to highlight values and the need to intended change. The students will reflect upon the their own understanding and place with big community issues. The students will learn about different composition and performance techniques used in rock music as a tool for protest and change. The unit will culminate in the students presenting a lunch-time concert, with some groups having their compositions/performances recorded.

Summative assessment:
Students will compose a piece of protest music, including lyrics, in Garage Band.In addition, the students will form groups and compose and perform a protest song that communicates the groups response to an important issue that answers the unit question. The students will reflect on the group composition and performance in the form of a compositional process portfolio.
